Hafa adai,
On March 1st (Saturday), a new café opened in the heart of Tumon. It’s called Café at Rootz. If you’re a Guam fan, this name might ring a bell! That’s right, it’s the café of Rootz Hill’s Grillhouse, located inside the Guam Plaza Resort.
The café is located in the lobby of the Guam Plaza Hotel, right next to Rootz Hill’s. There are two entrances: one from the lobby and another from the JP Superstore, which is adjacent to the lobby.
The entrance from JP Superstore opens at 11:00 AM. Please note that food and drinks purchased at Café at Rootz are not allowed to be brought into JP Superstore.
Now, let’s talk about the interior and the menu at Café at Rootz. The narrow space is unified with calm, light tones, creating a stylish atmosphere. Despite its modern style, the interior has a warm and cozy feel that’s very pleasant.
The menu includes items that can be ordered all day, as well as lunch options. The all-day items include pancakes, French toast, and eggs benedict, perfect for breakfast.
The picture above shows the “Croffle” ($15.00), a combination of a croissant and a waffle. This dessert originated in South Korea and has become popular in Guam as well. It looks like a waffle, but you can enjoy the buttery flavor and crisp texture of the croissant. You can choose between ube or berry syrup.
Another all-day option is the “Smoked Salmon Benedict” ($17.00) and “Daily Soup” ($7.00). The eggs benedict with soft poached eggs and hollandaise sauce pairs perfectly with the smoked salmon. The soup of the day was a luxurious tomato bisque, full of rich tomato flavor.
The lunch menu is available from 10:30 AM and includes hearty dishes like “Loco Moco” ($20.00) and “Grilled Pork Steak Salad” ($19.00).
All dishes are prepared by the chefs of Rootz Hill’s Grillhouse in their kitchen, offering high-quality hotel-style meals. It’s a great value to be able to enjoy such delicious food casually at a café. While the breakfast and lunch buffets at Rootz Hill’s are also tempting, dining at Café at Rootz is worth considering.
Additionally, you can enjoy a delightful tea time with the hotel’s specialty sweets, as well as sandwiches and breads that are available for takeout.
The café offers various coffee and tea options, along with healthy smoothies. One of the recommended smoothies is the “Green Glow” ($8.00 for 12oz), which includes lettuce, kale, bok choy, and spinach. It’s made with apple juice as the base, making it easy to drink, with mango syrup providing a nice accent.
Café at Rootz is highly recommended for guests staying at Guam Plaza Resort, as well as those shopping at JP Superstore. But even if you’re not, the atmosphere and the delicious offerings are definitely worth making a special trip. Be sure to check it out!
