Hi, this is JAPAN Rent A Car! Guam is so much more than the beaches and malls of Tumon. Head south by car and you’ll find waterfalls, a natural swimming pool, and reminders of WWII history — a completely different side of the island. Here’s a one-day route that strings together a few of the island’s most popular southern spots, so you can just get in your rental car and go.
Route Overview
Suggested order: Tumon → Talofofo Falls Park → Inarajan Natural Pool → War in the Pacific National Historical Park → the Chamorro Village Night Market in Hagåtña (Wednesday evenings only). The first two stops are on the eastern side of southern Guam, and the third is on the west side, so this route loops around the south and brings you back toward Tumon without doubling back on the same road.
Stop 1: Talofofo Falls Park
Talofofo Falls Park is one of the few spots on Guam where you actually walk a short trail to see a waterfall, and there’s also a small cable car ride overlooking the valley. It’s best visited in the morning while you’re still fresh — the trails inside the park have some ups and downs, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
Stop 2: Inarajan Natural Pool
Continue south from Talofofo and you’ll reach the Inarajan Natural Pool, a swimming area naturally enclosed by a coral reef. The water here is calm, making it a great spot to relax, take photos, or wade in around midday. There isn’t much shade, so bring water and sunscreen.
Stop 3: War in the Pacific National Historical Park
As you head back north along the west coast, consider stopping at the War in the Pacific National Historical Park to learn about Guam’s history during World War II. The museum is air-conditioned, making it a nice break between outdoor stops in the afternoon heat.
Optional Last Stop: Chamorro Village Night Market (Wednesdays only)
If your south Guam trip happens to fall on a Wednesday, it’s well worth swinging by the Chamorro Village Night Market in Hagåtña on your way back in the evening. The food stalls, barbecue smoke, and live performances only happen on Wednesday nights. On any other day, skip this stop and head straight back to Tumon.
A Few Things to Check Before You Go
- The distances between southern spots are longer than in Tumon, and gas stations are few and far between along the way — fill up your tank before you set out.
- Much of the route runs through winding, hilly roads, and short afternoon rain showers are common — the pavement can get slippery, so drive at a reduced speed.
- Plan the exact locations and full multi-stop route on Google Maps before you leave, rather than relying on memory to find each spot.
- The Chamorro Village Night Market only runs on Wednesday evenings — visiting on any other day means the market won’t be open, so double-check the day before you go.
