Hi, this is JAPAN Rent A Car! Following our South Guam drive route, here’s a half-day route covering some popular spots in the north and central part of the island. Every stop here is close to Tumon, so the whole loop is easy to finish in half a day — a great option even if you only have a free afternoon.
Route Overview
Suggested order: Tumon → Two Lovers Point → Ypao Beach Park → Alupat Island → Emerald Valley. You start at the northern tip of Tumon, pass through central Tumon, and then head gradually south, so there’s no need to backtrack.
Stop 1: Two Lovers Point
Two Lovers Point is one of Guam’s most iconic sights, perched on a cliff overlooking Tumon Bay and tied to a famous local legend of tragic love. From the overlook you get a sweeping view of the whole Tumon coastline — the morning light on the water makes it an especially good time for photos.
Stop 2: Ypao Beach Park
Head back toward central Tumon and you’ll find Ypao Beach Park, a favorite with local families thanks to its playground and grassy areas. It’s an easy, comfortable stop even with young kids, and a good spot for a lunch break.
Stop 3: Alupat Island
Continue south from Tumon toward Agana Bay and you’ll reach a viewpoint overlooking Alupat Island. The contrast between the small uninhabited island’s greenery and the calm bay is beautiful, offering a quieter mood than lively Tumon.
Last Stop: Emerald Valley
Head further southwest to the village of Piti and you’ll find Emerald Valley, a hidden gem known for its striking emerald-green water — a popular spot for photos and a fitting way to wrap up this north-central route.
A Few Things to Check Before You Go
- Even though every stop here is close to Tumon, plan the exact entrance and route for each on Google Maps before you leave, rather than relying on memory.
- Two Lovers Point and Ypao Beach Park are both very popular, and parking can get crowded at certain times of day.
- Alupat Island and Emerald Valley are natural spots — wear comfortable walking shoes and bring sun protection (a hat and sunscreen).
